Learning Not To Be

I am learning
not to be a messiah,
to let the sunsets I witness
remain a private smile
that doesn’t need
to be
 broadcast,
but beauty demands
my martyrdom and as
hard as I try to relish
moments without commentary,
the words beat on the pulpit
impatiently, demanding
that I preach them.
